Intimate. Organic. Voice.

"Eve elevates the words and melody of a song to the sublime, and that is every songwriter's dream. I couldn't be happier with her accomplished and sensitive rendering of Bossa Nova Sundays!"

"Eve's show rocks and sways from start to finish and while often billed as A Night with Eve Haslam and Satin Steel Jazz, it should be called, "Catch A Rising Star" as that is what happens at each electrifying performance."
– Brad Langer, President, Absolute Entertainment, NY, NY

"What a GREAT band. Eve was stunning in that midnight/royal blue dress! One of my favorite of Eve's performances was "The Days of Wine and Roses"....her delivery was touching and vulnerable."
– Krista Tortora, Asheville, NC

From early childhood, Eve was the vocalist for her Juilliard-grad composer dad, Herb Haslam. In the fifth grade they co-composed a four-part piece for the school chorus, performed at graduation. By senior high she was exempt from her music studies and was selected with five other members for the first a capella group of her county called "The Minstrels." Later she studied under the late Europe-renowned opera coach, James Partridge.

Her vocal styles over the years have been influenced by Julie London, Sarah Vaughan, Elis Regina, Eydie Gorme, Nancy Wilson, and Barbra Streisand.

"Some of my favorite Brazilian singers have a natural muted tone and sing songs that tell a raw story relevant to a day in the life or a relationship. This is hard to mimic and does no justice to a Jobim composition without capturing this flavor."

Her vision for SSJ started in 2008 with the desire to capture organic sounds of an all-acoustic group. "I came up with the name with some girlfriends over dinner, and every name would sound like Sweet Basil, we couldn't stop including food in the title," says Eve. "After calling my dad, he finally said, 'Keep it out of the kitchen!' That's when we came up with Satin Steel, which captures my hard and soft edges. It was a fun night."

SSJ is a collaboration of the finest musicians throughout North and South Carolina, filling venues, concert halls and private shows with impassioned performances.
